GIANT wind turbines will never appear anywhere on the Blackall Range because there is not enough wind.

Environment councillor Keryn Jones has confirmed wind assessments carried out in South-East Queensland have shown only two locations are suitable for the windmill towers and they are Crows Nest and Coopers Gap.

But smaller domestic “vertical micro wind turbines” may yet make an appearance on Coast roofs, in the hinterland at least, if the technology can be perfected to maximise our generally low wind levels.

Last December, Sunshine Coast council advertised nationally for expressions of interest from companies that could provide solutions to generate energy from renewable sources instead of fossil fuels.

The action was sparked by the environmental upheaval that would be caused by the proposed overhead powerline installation at Eerwah Vale and Eumundi.

Fifty-six local, interstate and international applications were received, which the council is now sifting through.
